Shell Canada has rolled out plans to boost the long-term expansion of its massive Athabasca oilsands project by another 40 per cent.

The Calgary-based company � the subject of a $8.7-billion takeover offer from its parent, Royal Dutch Shell � said Wednesday its new growth strategy aims for production of 770,000 barrels a day. Just two months ago, its long-term production target was 550,000 barrels.
